hi,

oleg, i thought since zmodeler supports most nfs games, the new nfs hot pursuit maybe interesting for modding.

ive played it for a bit and its not that bad (although its nfs .. so yeah :P), i took a look at files and thought maybe you could consider working on an importer, or want to take a look at the files at least.

ive took all files from the vehicle folder which seem useful and also some VEH_ and global_ example files, unfortunetly the vehicle files dont have exact names so god knows whats actually in these.

let me know what you think people, especially you oleg :)

the outside of the models looks kinda good but the interior is basicly lowest I've ever seen.

yeah, i've ripped some models too with 3dx. it messes with smoothing and mapping - of course a direct import will always be better .. as for the interior, the game doesnt support first person view so you couldnt expect anything but low poly interiors.

i just thought i throw the idea out here, and eventually oleg would tell us his opinion about it.

all content is LZW-packed with well-defined headers for unpacking. May be you will search or make a post on Xentax forum or at aLuigi forum to get a quick unpacking tool? I would take a look on unpacked data then.

even thought there is no first person camera? I always play with bumper or hood camera indeed.

Ingame there is a setting to set textures highres.

Interior textures (Setting on) -1024 x 1024
Rear light textures (Setting on) - 512 x 512

If the setting is turned off turns into:

Interior texture (Setting Off) - 512 x 512
Rear light textures (Setting Off) - 256 x 256

Etc etc etc... It all changes really.

ive asked at luigi's and he told to use 'offzip'. frankly, i dont really get it work. i can run it from cmd and all but i dont get to extract files.

so anyone managed to extract files ? i thought i'd ask you guys first, before i tell luigi it wouldn't work when it actually does. still no go for me, keeps giving me errors.

I afraid unpacked stuff doesn't make much sence.. at least textures are fine, but the rest seems to be messy. I can't even distinguish vertices and faces data.

that doesnt sound too good, although i got offzip working with a little help from luigi:

offzip -a c:\file.bin c:\output_folder 0

not yet. I suspect geometry part is either encrypted or compressed with another (modified or additionally) method.

for example, if you pack with WinZIP each file extracted by this tool, most of them will not be compressed. something like 3-5% of packing advantage. Ordinary vertices data could give a 20-40% compression gain, while polygons data could easily beat 50% compression level.

yes, offset could be set to 0. everything extracts fine, handy tool :)

personally i'd be focusing on mafia 2, better game imo..i know the purists will say otherwise, but oh well whatever you decide to do..

Hi Oleg,

Nice to see you trying do to make a filter fo Zmodeler2, I have a question, what about the textures and UV mapping? I did some extracts with 3D Ripper DX, too, and no luck at loading them with UV map.
I`m asking that, because I remember UV bugs with Most Wanted filter in the past.

I hope you will make possible to have Hot Pursuit cars for us - the convertors and fans :D

i'm not making a filter. I've said that there is no readable geometry part yet, so nothing could be said or claimed.

Pff... I remember I saw some information about how the files in Burnout Paradise (NFSHS uses the same engine as BP) are packed but can't find it again..Sad, it could help.:(

So I agree that Mafia 2 is worth researching much more than this NFS.

The first NFS game wich will not have a filter.
Too bad, there are really nice cars.
How about textures?
They look now a lot better and they look highres too.

Don't give up just yet please keep on trying this a great game and I have yet to play it myself and I seen videos of it in action. I think its worth doing this filter but of course there is nfs360u and arushan who would want to try and crack it. I still think Burnout Paradise is also worth cracking as well. Please do let us know if you do find readable geometry because we would want to do new cars for the game to add or replace existing ones as well.

Not really the first NFS games to not have import filters were Need for Speed: Underground and Underground 2 but nfs360u managed to crack the format and make export filters for making new cars.

I think arushan could crack cause he has very special reverse engineering skills. But now he's apart from modding it seems.
The compression/encryption algorhytm the game uses can be uncommon, coded specially for this engine. So there can be no way to get it except disassembling the game executable.
As far as I know the same story was with old nfs engine (MW-UC), arushan wrote JDLZ compression code by analyzing game exe.

But I hope our case is much easier :P
