Can materials be in alphabetical order?

Postby Yoha » Mon Apr 09, 2018 3:05 pm

Hi Oleg,

I have a small question about material balls.
Can they list in alphabetical order?

I know there's a search function on material panel, which is good.
But usually we named several materials in a similar way, so it is still a little hard to find right one.

It will reduce the time that we find them, if they can be in alphabetical order.

I doubt it would be possible to do straight in a material balls view. may be some kind if drop-down list sorted alphabetically, but not sure on this. Materials balls view is not just a view of available materials, as materials inside zmodeler are numerically indexed. when you sort materials with drag&drop, their position/indices are changed and all scene geometry (polygons) numerical reference to materials are updated. that is why sorting materials physically will cause changes inside polygons indices. even more, it will change order polygons are drawn (top material first, bottom material last). Having materials sorted just to view them this way will prevent materials order (drag&drop sorting) be disabled. I might think on this but not quite sure how this could be implemented safely.
